Providence cop convicted of rape to appeal sentence

A Providence Police officer convicted of rape in 2010 will appeal his sentence before the Rhode Island Supreme Court Tuesday.
Marcus Huffman, 40, was convicted in 2010 of raping a woman he picked up outside a Providence Club while on duty. A Judge sentenced Huffman to 40-years in prison for his actions.
Huffman picked up the woman who was intoxicated and physically helpless and offered her a ride home. Instead he brought her to a police substation and raped her on the bathroom floor.
When the woman left she went to her aunt's house to call the police to report the incident. Huffman was one of the responding officers.
In court he issued a tearful apology to the woman her family and the Providence Police Department.
Huffman's attorney said the act was not rape but instead consensual sex but the woman took the stand during the trial saying she is a lesbian and not physically attracted to men.
Huffman joined the force in 1994.
