Trial set in June for Salem officer charged with rape

SALEM — A Salem police lieutenant charged with raping a family friend is scheduled to stand trial in June.
Lt. Matthew Desmond, 41, was arrested last summer after the woman, who was at his home while her child and Desmond’s children played in a pool, went to police and said Desmond had sexually assaulted her. The woman told police that in Desmond’s home, he reached under her dress and between her legs.
Desmond, through his attorney, Thomas Drechsler, denies the sexual assault allegations, saying that whatever happened on the afternoon of June 20 was consensual.
Yesterday, Drechsler and prosecutor Kate MacDougall asked a Salem Superior Court judge to schedule the trial for June 4.
It appears from court documents and the schedule that Desmond’s lawyer does not intend to argue any motions in the case prior to then, such as a motion to suppress statements that Desmond made to fellow officers or to dismiss the case.
Many sexual assault cases are also delayed while defense attorneys seek access to a victim’s counseling or treatment records. It’s relatively rare for a rape case to be tried within a year of the alleged offense.
Desmond, a 15-year veteran of the department, was placed on unpaid administrative leave from his position following his indictment.

cop charged with sexual battery

FDLE launches investigation on Henri Larue
The Leesburg Police Department has arrested one of its own officers on Wednesday on sexual battery charges after a three-month
According to police, Officer Henri Bart Larue, 25, has been charged with sexual battery with a firearm after the investigation into the Oct. 3, 2012, incident. Larue stopped a woman for a broken tail light and found she had active suspensions, so he placed her under arrest and started to take her to the Lake County Jail, according to reports.
On the way to the jail, he allegedly stopped at an alley behind a shopping center, removed her handcuffs and forced her to perform a sex act, the report states.
Leesburg police officials said the department is ashamed of the allegations.
"From the chief's office on down, like I said, we're just mortified about those allegations," said Captain Rob Hicks of the Leesburg Police Department. "Once we determined the nature of the allegation was criminal we immediately brought in the Florida Department of Law Enforcement."
The victim has hired Attorney Mark NeJame to represent her. NeJame held a news conference on Wednesday afternoon to discuss the charges his client filed.
"The car was stopped, (the victim's) door was opened, one of her handcuff was left on one wrist the other was released, and while the officer was armed with a gun strapped to his side, a uniform and badges, he beckoned her to commit a sex act on him," NeJame said.
Larue was employed with the department starting in March 2012 and was placed on paid administrative leave October 5, 2012, following the allegations. He is now on unpaid leave.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement conducted an investigation, along with the Leesburg Police Department. The department will determine if Larue will be taken off the force.
Larue's bond has been set at $100,000.

LEESBURG, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -
A Leesburg police officer has been arrested following a months-long investigation into an allegation of sexual misconduct.
On Wednesday afternoon, agents with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement executed an arrest warrant on Henri Bart Larue, 25, for sexual battery by a law enforcement officer with a firearm.
The Leesburg Police Department was made aware of the allegation by a department member in early October of last year. Since then, an internal investigation was opened by the department and a request was made to the FDLE to conduct a parallel investigation.
"The allegations were of a criminal nature and are taken very seriously by the administration of the Leesburg Police Department," said Leesburg Police Captain Rob Hicks.

Larue was originally employed with the Leesburg Police Department on March 15, 2012 and was placed on paid administrative leave October 5, 2012 immediately following the criminal allegations.
Larue has filed a confidentiality request regarding his jail booking photograph; therefore, it will not be released to the public. He also declined a FOX 35 request for an intervi

A Memphis Police officer has been suspended after accusations of sexual assault, officials said Monday.

The officer, who has not been named, is assigned to the Downtown Station’s entertainment district unit. He has been relieved of duty with pay while the incident is being investigated.

According to officials, the victim called police around noon Sunday to report that she may have been sexually assaulted. The 21-year-old woman told police that she left Beale Street around 3 a.m. Sunday. She met up with the suspect on Beale, but left to return to her Midtown home. She recalled texting and speaking with the suspect, but told police she was intoxicated. The suspect showed up at her home, she told police, and may have assaulted her.

No charges have been filed, police said.

Indiana officer charged with coaxing female inmates into stripping, performing sex show

Indiana officer charged with coaxing female inmates into stripping, performing sex show

MARTINSVILLE, Ind. –  A central Indiana  officer has been charged with coaxing female inmates into stripping for him in return for favors.

Morgan County officer Nicholas Tankersley, 21, of Martinsville, was formally charged Thursday with sexual battery, official misconduct, theft and battery. The Reporter-Times reported (http://www.reporter-times.com/ ) Tankersley has been fired.

The Associated Press' phone call to the jail went unanswered Saturday. Tankersley's number was unlisted.

About a dozen women claimed, according to a probable cause affidavit, Tankersley told them he would provide them with extra sheets, oranges, ink pens or other items — in violation of jail rules — if they exposed their breasts or stripped in front of him.

Two female inmates told investigators that Tankersley had them perform a sex show for him, the affidavit said. Another female inmate said Tankersley touched her breast while she lay on her bunk.

Tankersley asked for a public defender at a hearing Thursday, but it was not clear if one had been appointed.

Morgan County Sheriff's Department Detective Sgt. Larry Sanders said in the affidavit that Tankersley admitted to most of the acts, which allegedly occurred between Nov. 15 and Jan. 11 during the midnight to 8 a.m. shift.

Tankersley also reportedly told police he has friended some former female inmates on Facebook, but his wife has asked him to unfriend them.

Veteran officer charged with sexual assault of inmate

MARIETTA – A sergeant with the Cobb County Sheriff’s Office was arrested on Thursday and charged with sexually assaulting a female inmate.

Sgt. Alvin Blake Sutherland, 51, of Douglasville faces four felony counts: violation of public oath, aggravated sodomy, aggravated sexual battery and sexual assault by a law enforcement officer.

Sheriff Neil Warren said investigators learned of the matter after the inmate made a complaint late Wednesday alleging she had been sexually assaulted by an employee of the Sheriff’s Office on the evening of Jan. 11.

“We were able to determine through the investigation that there was probable cause for a criminal warrant to be issued,” Warren said. “I’m really heartbroken over it, to be honest with you.”

Sutherland, who has since been terminated, is a former Marine and 10-year veteran of the department.

He was assigned to the detention center, where he supervised 20 to 30 deputies and about 250 inmates, Warren said.

The sheriff said, while he couldn’t go into many details, the jail covers about 20 acres.

“You’re moving inmates from point A to point B, it could be for various reasons,” Warren said. “It could be for moving them into another cellblock, taking them to the infirmary for a doctor’s appointment, to see the nurse, just a number of things.”

Warren said it’s normal procedure, given that Sutherland was a sergeant, to help with moving inmates.

“And evidently they had some time together when this was committed,” he said.

Sutherland remains in jail on a $100,000 bond.

“He has brought distrust and dishonor on the family of law enforcement,” Warren said. “He has tarnished the badge that we all in law enforcement hold dear to our heart.”

Warren said the conduct Sutherland engaged in was unacceptable under any circumstances.

“But even more so when it’s perpetrated by a law enforcement officer against someone that he’s been charged with protecting,” he said.

Investigators are checking on other possible misconduct.

“I have already initiated an internal investigation to find out how can we not let this happen again,” Warren said.

CLARKSVILLE, TENN. — A retired Clarksville Police sergeant and associate pastor has been indicted by the Montgomery County grand jury and accused of raping a mentally disabled woman on two occasions.
Charles Alan Denton, 59, also known as Chuck Denton, was charged with two counts of rape on allegations that he sexually assaulted a 34-year-old mentally disabled woman.

SPD Officer Arrested on Sexual Assault Charges

he Sacramento Police Department (SPD) recently arrested one of their own – a 22-year veteran of the SPD on charges of sexual assault, according to an official press release.
22 year police veteran Gary Baker was arrested for the repeated assaults on the elderly woman
On Thursday, December 20, Gary Baker, 49, was reportedly taken into police custody for various sexual assault charges while off duty. He was charged with rape, two counts of forcible oral copulation, attempt to commit oral copulation, assault with intent to commit rape and sexual battery.
According to the SPD, on Wednesday, November 25, 2010, the SPD responded to a report of a sexual assault to a 76-year-old female victim that occurred near 24th Street and South Manor Drive. At the time of the incident, DNA evidence was reportedly collected and uploaded to the CODIS System; however, a match was not located.  The investigation was complicated due to the victim having a pre-existing medical condition, which made it hard for her to communicate.
The SPD says the initial incident was believed to have happened the afternoon of November 424, 2010, at the victim’s home. According to reports, the suspect had forcibly entered the victim’s apartment when she answered the door, then forced the victim to have sexual intercourse and orally copulate him.
At the time, the suspect was described as black adult, 35-40 years old, 5’-6” to 5’-9”, medium build with black hair. The victim reportedly provided information that the suspect was possibly a security guard or a law enforcement officer, and a criminal investigation was initiated regarding these allegations.
The victim was reportedly assaulted in her home at the Sacramento Manor senior apartment complex
On Thursday, September 20, 2012, the victim reported the same suspect returned and again sexually assaulted her.  There was reportedly additional evidence collected, and detectives continued to follow up with any possible leads.
According to the report, on Tuesday, December 11, 2012, the victim reported the same suspect entered her apartment and attempted to sexually assault her.  Investigators continued to examine evidence for any possible leads.   At the recommendation and assistance of detectives, the victim’s family reportedly installed a video surveillance camera at her home.
Then on Tuesday, December 18, 2012, the victim’s family advised detectives of possible surveillance footage of a suspect captured the day prior at the victim’s residence.  Investigators responded and recognized the images on the video to be Baker.   The SPD immediately launched an intense criminal and administrative investigation into Baker’s involvement in this case, and Baker was reportedly placed on administrative leave as the investigation continued.
According to the SPD, a DNA comparison between the evidence collected in the 2010 assault and that of Baker was expedited by the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Crime Lab.  The SPD says the results of the DNA comparison positively identified Baker as the suspect in the 2010 assault.
The Sacramento Police Department urges anyone with information pertaining to this crime to contact the Sacramento Police Department at (916) 732-0103.  Callers can remain anonymous.
