Memphis Police officer suspended after possible sexual assault allegation

A Memphis Police officer has been suspended after accusations of sexual assault, officials said Monday.

The officer, who has not been named, is assigned to the Downtown Station’s entertainment district unit. He has been relieved of duty with pay while the incident is being investigated.

According to officials, the victim called police around noon Sunday to report that she may have been sexually assaulted. The 21-year-old woman told police that she left Beale Street around 3 a.m. Sunday. She met up with the suspect on Beale, but left to return to her Midtown home. She recalled texting and speaking with the suspect, but told police she was intoxicated. The suspect showed up at her home, she told police, and may have assaulted her.

No charges have been filed, police said.
