Cambridge officer charged with rape in off-duty incident
CAMBRIDGE, Md. — A 24-year-old Cambridge police officer has been charged with rape in an off-duty incident. A Dorchester County grand jury indicted Officer Carlton Brittingham Jr. of Rhodesdale last week on charges of second-degree rape, false imprisonment and other sex offenses related to an incident in the county in September. Wicomico County prosecutors are leading the investigation to avoid a conflict of interest.
Cambridge Police Chief Ken Malik says Brittingham, who has been with the department since 2009, was suspended without pay after the indictment.
Brittingham posted bail and was released. A trial date has not been set.
