A Boulder police officer who suffered serious injuries last
year after being attacked by a drunk college student on University Hill has
been jailed since Friday in Broomfield on allegations of harassment and felony
stalking, according to police.
Court and police records show that Christian Dale McCracken,
32, of Frederick, was arrested early Saturday by Broomfield police on suspicion
of stalking, a class 5 felony, and harassment, a class 3 misdemeanor.
Broomfield police said the incident occurred at 9:29 p.m. Friday in the 3400
block of Molly Circle.
Boulder police Chief Mark Beckner confirmed Monday that the
man arrested was Boulder police Officer Christian McCracken. He said it's a
domestic violence case, but declined to discuss the allegations in detail
because it is not a Boulder police investigation.
Beckner said Boulder police conduct internal investigations
whenever an officer is charged criminally. Internal discipline is not dependent
on a criminal conviction.
Beckner said McCracken is on suspension, but he has not been
on active duty as a police officer since August, when he was hospitalized with
a head injury after being repeatedly assaulted by Treven Hunter, 23.
McCracken had responded to The Sink, 1165 13th St., on a
report that a customer would not leave the bar after refusing to pay a $3 tab
and had punched the manager.
Hunter pleaded guilty to third-degree assault on a peace
officer, which carries a mandatory prison sentence of between two and four
years. He is scheduled to be sentenced Thursday in Boulder District Court.
McCracken remained in custody Monday evening on $100,000
bond.
He is due in court in Broomfield on Thursday.
