CHARLESTON, S.C. — A Charleston
police transportation officer has been arrested after a woman said he fondled
her while she was being taken to jail.
Forty-three-year-old Kermit A.
Jenkins has been charged with second-degree sexual misconduct. Jenkins is being
held in the Charleston County jail. It was not clear if he has a lawyer.
Police spokesman Charles
Francis says Jenkins is accused of reaching under a woman’s skirt early on May
4. The woman filed a complaint the next day.
Jenkins was placed on
administrative duties with pay May 5. Francis says Jenkins’ pay was stopped May
14, and he was fired after his arrest.
Francis says Jenkins had been
with the department since 2012. He was not a sworn police officer.
