LOS ANGELES (AP) - A former Los
Angeles County sheriff's deputy has been sentenced to nine years in prison for
raping a woman while on duty and trying to get another to have sex with him.
Twenty-nine-year-old Jose
Rigoberto Sanchez was sentenced Friday and ordered to register as a sex
offender.
Prosecutors say that in 2010,
Sanchez stopped a driver in Palmdale who had warrant. Authorities say he
offered not to arrest the 24-year-old woman in exchange for sex, then drove her
to the desert and raped her.
Prosecutors say two nights
later, he solicited a bribe in the form of sex acts from a 36-year-old woman
who was suspected of drunken driving.
Sanchez pleaded no contest last
month to rape under color of authority and soliciting a bribe.
